Statement
My sculpture and installations use a variety of materials and processes that are determined by site, context, and subject matter. I try to include a dynamic element in the work, so that it changes in some way, altering with light and shadow, movement, or a phenomenological process (fog, ice, sound). Sometimes the work is representational, sometimes it is more abstract, guided by concept, or material investigation.
Much of the work is time-based, relying on simple kinetic systems that are usually cyclical, but sometimes progressive, changing gradually over the course of an exhibition. In early work, I explored water as a sculptural medium finding it rich in its physical versatility and associations. I have frequently used models, finding that they allow me to address larger issues in a manageable and playful way; many of these pieces depicted disaster scenarios with ecological undertones. More recently, my investigations into live-feeding video have led to the exploration of sound, the result of a physical process.
I have striven to broaden the scope of my work, allowing for an adaptability and range in terms of subject matter, site specificity, and form.
