Arcs 2019

This work focuses on the recent history of the site, beginning with the settlers. The shorter portion presents 5 maps of Downsview (1878, 1949, 1955, 1975 and 2019) showing pictorially the development of the area. Each map is accompanied by a schematic text describing major changes. The taller half is comprised of panels laser cut with images taken from old photographs.

This work commemorates the DHC-2 Beaver – the iconic Canadian bush plane that was designed and developed in Downsview.

Downsview Park, Toronto

Four large scale sculptural works were commissioned for a ½ km. trail. The sculptures address various aspects of Downsviews history. (Landscape design by Forrec Inc. Primary fabricator: Streamliner fabrication Inc. Secondary fabricator: Punchclock Metal Works.)

Weathervane Planes 2019

Models of four of the deHavilland aircraft built in Downsview, were constructed from silver-brazed copper and brass, and mounted on galvanized steel towers (540 – 600 cm. high). The models turn with the wind, propellers spinning.

Treaty Table 2019

This work focuses on the indigenous history of Downsview, particularly that of the Mississaugas of the New Credit. A map of southern Ontario is inset into a large circular table, showing how the Mississaugas’ territory has been cut up and taken through 8 different treaties. The circular table represents the earth, but also a meeting place; the potential for discussion and reconciliation.
